When you are completing the treatment for ovarian cancer, this can be both stressful yet exciting.  In fact, you will be relieved when you had finished the treatment; but, it would be hard for you not to worry about the cancer coming back which is called recurrence.

And reality checks, this is the very common concern of all the cancer survivors.  It would certainly take a while before you gain your confidence back; and even if there are no recurrences, cancer survivors will surely learn to live a life with uncertainty.

After ovarian cancer, it is very important to keep all your follow-up appointments with your physician.  During these visits, your physician will certainly ask you about the symptoms, do some physical examinations, or have your blood tests, or any other imaging studies like CT scans and x-rays.

These are needed to check if there is any cancer recurrence or spreading as well as if there are some side effects of the certain treatment that had been applied to you.  By simply doing this follow-ups after ovarian cancer, you will be able to have the chance to ask and discuss any of your concerns with your physician.

Almost all of the treatment for ovarian cancer can have some side effects that could last for a few weeks or even up to several months; and unfortunately, some of these side effects can be permanent.  You do not have to be shy and hesitant in sharing them what you are experiencing so that they could help you in managing it.

Another important thing to do is to always keep your medical insurances; in this way, even if no one wants to have a cancer recurrence, it is still better to be ready for it.  Nowadays, many people have been already bankrupted because of cancer recurrence.

After ovarian cancer, follow-ups usually include a very careful general physical examination and a blood test for tumor markers which will certainly help your physician to recognize any recurrences; in which the choices for tumor markers blood test depends on the type of the cancer the woman has.

Like CA-125, this is the type of tumor marker being used for the follow-up of a woman who has epithelial ovarian cancer.  For those women with germ cell tumors, a blood test for alpha-fetoprotein or commonly known as AFP and/or human chorionic gonadotropin, also known as HCG, are being done.  Simply checking the levels of the hormones, like estrogen, testosterone, and inhibin, sometimes provide a big help for those women with stromal cancers.

After ovarian cancer, you could have all the time to look in your life in a new, different, and beautiful ways.  This is also where you could think for ways on how you can improve your health over the long term.  You must now think about changing your lifestyle into a healthier and clean living one; meaning no more vices like drinking and smoking.

This will help you to recover completely from what you had gone through.  It is also advisable, to all the survivors of this disease, to watch their diet and nutrition intake after ovarian cancer.  They should also have plenty of rest, avoid being over fatigue (because this is one of the symptoms of the disease), avoid working too much and, of course, engage in exercising as much as you can.
