Avastin for ovarian cancer is a recombinant, humanized, monoclonal antibody for the vascular endothelial growth factor which is also known as the VEGF.  VEGF is the one that appears to play a very important role in tumor angiogenesis, and in blocking some of this activity that should have an anti-tumor effect.

While, Avastin for ovarian cancer has undergone some clinical trial, that have shown all the activities in a variety of tumors, most especially when being combined with other types of agents.  But, there have only been two reports recorded about the treatment of Avastin for ovarian cancer alone or with some combination and these only involve less than 15 patients affected with the ovarian cancer disease.

Some of the researchers from the University of California at Irvine have also reported that the outcomes of the 32 patients with recurrent advanced ovarian cancer were treated with the Avastin alone or Avastin with the combination of other types of agents.  Avastin for ovarian cancer is being administered every 3 weeks with an average of 6 cycles of the therapy.

The Avastin alone has a response rate of 16% with 62% having the disease stabilized.  And it has a median survival for 7 months.  Some of the authors even suggested that Avastin has a very significant benefit for all the women affected with the ovarian cancer disease which had failed multiple regimens.

There are also some researchers from the University of Alabama that had reported the effects of treating four patients with the Avastin for ovarian cancer patients with ascites.  They had reported that there are no paracenteses required for the initiation of the treatment with the use of Avastin.  They have also included that Avastin for ovarian cancer controlled the ascites’ production in all the ovarian cancer patients with refractory disease.

Avastin for ovarian cancer could be considered as one of the possible medicines that could be used in treating ovarian cancer patients.  With all the studies that had been made and reported, it certainly shows us the good effect of Avastin for women possessing the ovarian cancer disease.  Now, we don’t have to worry too much on how we can cure the ovarian disease that has been killing a lot of women nowadays.  Let us give much of our time in improving this medicine, so that it could be used as the primary cure for the ovarian cancer disease.

There are a lot of researchers all over the globe who spend their time studying the Avastin and all the possible effects of it in patients affected with ovarian cancer.  Like the researcher from Ohio State University which evaluated Avastin with Taxol or Taxotere in 10 of the refractory ovarian carcinoma patients.  9 of these patients had a decrease in their CA125 levels.

And after a median of 3 cycles of the therapy, 5 of the patients had an increase in their CA125 level, while the 3 remaining patients had a normalized level, and the other one has continued with the improvement.

And lastly, there was also a case report from the Walter Reed Army Medical Center that states that there are 3 patients affected with the refractory well-differentiated ovarian carcinoma has been treated with the use of Avastin alone.  The 3 said patients had a well differentiated serious endometroid ovarian cancer, micropapillary serous carcinoma of the ovary or the primary peritoneal micropapillary serous carcinoma, respectively.
