Ovarian tumors have 3 different types which are germ cell tumors, stromal tumors, and epithelial tumors.  For us to know more about these three different types of ovarian tumors, let me discuss it one by one.

First is the germ cell tumor.  Germ cell tumor is being developed from cells that produce the ova or the eggs.  Most of these tumors are benign or mild; although, some of these are cancerous and sometimes it could be life-threatening.

The common germ cell malignancies include the maturing of teratomas, dysgerminomas, and the endodermal sinus tumors.  Mostly, the ones being diagnosed with these cell malignancies are the teenagers and the women in their 20’s.  The good thing with this is that, 70 percent of it was being diagnosed in a very early stage causing it to be easily cured to bring back the preserved fertility of the patient.

Second kind of it is the stromal tumors.  These are being developed from the connected tissue cells which holds the ovary together and the ones that produce the hormones estrogen and progesterone.  The most common type of this tumor is the granulosa-theca tumors and the sertoli-leydig cell tumors.  These types of ovarian tumors are fairly rare and are usually being considered as the low-grade cancer.

The last and third type of ovarian tumor is the epithelial tumors.  These are being developed from the thin layer of cells which is called the epithelium; which is responsible in covering our ovaries.  Like germ cell tumor, this type is also benign; this includes serious adenomas, mucinous adenomas, and the Brenner tumors.

The cancerous epithelial tumors are being the most common and most serious ovarian cancers which account 85-90% of all ovarian cancers.  Some of these ovarian epithelial tumors do not appear clearly under a microscope as cancerous; and it is commonly being called as the borderline tumors or the tumors with low malignant potential.

Now that we know the 3 different types of ovarian cancer and the symptoms of ovarian cancer, we should all take account with ourselves and take good care of it.  If we are already experiencing some of the signs, we better see our gynecologist the soonest time that we can.  In this way, we can save ourselves from having an incurable disease.  Let us all remember that prevention will help us live for long.
